It covers a big area of savannah, cut through by the Nile River.&nbsp;The park is best known for the impressive Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gap and crashes down with great force.<\/h4>\n<h4>The northern part of the park is where you\u2019ll see most of the wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and lions.&nbsp;Along the Nile, look out for large groups of hippos and crocodiles.&nbsp;In the southeast, Budongo Forest is home to chimpanzees.<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Depending on where you\u2019re coming from or going next, pick the right entry gate. This helps you avoid paying extra entry fees for your first or last day in the park.&nbsp;<\/h4>\n<h4>Entry gates at Murchison Falls National Park:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"902\"><strong data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"914\">South<\/strong>: Kichumbanyobo Gate<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"902\"><strong data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"950\">Southwest<\/strong>: Bugungu and Mubako Gates<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"902\"><strong data-start=\"979\" data-end=\"988\">North<\/strong>: Chobe, Wangar, and Tangi Gates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>If you are coming from the South and you don&#8217;t want to pay the park entrance fee for your first day, we would recommend driving via Biso. Consider hiring a UWA ranger at the gate (around USD 25 for half a day, plus tips). A ranger helps spot animals and shares interesting information about the park.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"380\" data-end=\"400\">Night game drive<\/strong><br data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"403\" \/>Murchison Falls is one of Uganda\u2019s few parks that allows night drives. Join a driver-guide in an open safari vehicle to see animals after dark. Every accommodation can help you with a night game drive as you are not able doing this in your &#8216;own&#8217; rental vehicle.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"552\" data-end=\"580\">Boat safari to the falls<\/strong><br data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"583\" \/>Take a boat ride from the Paraa Lodge jetty to the bottom of the falls. At the end, you can either hike to the top of the falls (you\u2019ll need a driver waiting there) or return by boat and drive up later. The view from the top is amazing!<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"854\">Birdwatching boat ride<\/strong><br data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"857\" \/>Wild Frontiers offers smaller boat trips downriver towards the Nile Delta. This is a great option for birders, you might even see a Shoebill stork!<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1013\" data-end=\"1037\">Relax at Paraa Lodge<\/strong><br data-start=\"1037\" data-end=\"1040\" \/>Enjoy a refreshing break with beautiful river views at Paraa Lodge, located right in the middle of the park.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1190\">Chimp tracking in Budongo Forest<\/strong><br data-start=\"1190\" data-end=\"1193\" \/>Budongo Forest offers chimpanzee tracking, but sightings are less certain than in <a href=\"\/uganda\/travel-notes\/kibale-forest\/\" title=\"Kibale Forest\" data-destination-id=\"c81a3679-5781-43c9-aa11-2215a97fdc9a\" data-destination-type=\"guidePage\" data-start-item-path=\"homepage\" data-start-item-id=\"7ee4dd46-7382-4797-8bd2-2be3e75a7bf1\" data-link-type=\"Content\">Kibale<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1288\" data-end=\"1315\">Community or bush walks<\/strong><br data-start=\"1315\" data-end=\"1318\" \/>Arrange guided walks through your lodge to explore local communities or nearby nature.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1421\">Fishing<\/strong><br data-start=\"1421\" data-end=\"1424\" \/>Murchison Falls is excellent for sport fishing. Both routes have good roads leading directly to Entebbe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"540\">To skip most of Kampala\u2019s traffic, use the Northern Bypass, which connects to the Entebbe Express Highway. This is Uganda\u2019s only toll road &#8211; remember to bring a&nbsp;5,000 UGX note.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"540\"><strong>Suggested stops:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"540\"><strong data-start=\"565\" data-end=\"576\">Fuel up<\/strong> in Masindi or Kigumba.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"540\"><strong data-start=\"602\" data-end=\"626\">Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary<\/strong>: <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ziwarhinoandwildliferanch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The only place in Uganda<\/a> where you can track white rhinos on foot. Treks last around 1\u20132 hours (available from 7 AM to 5 PM).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"540\"><strong data-start=\"756\" data-end=\"778\">Gators Cafe Migera<\/strong> (just after Ziwa): A good place to stop for lunch or coffee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Arrival in Entebbe<br \/><\/strong>The Roadtrip Uganda team will collect your car from your lodge. It\u2019s less developed and has its own charm. Locals might shout &#8220;Muno!&#8221; at you (like &#8220;Mzungu&#8221; in other parts). Reply with &#8220;Kopango?&#8221; (&#8220;How are you?&#8221;), and they&#8217;ll respond &#8220;Kop\u00eah!&#8221; (&#8220;Good!&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"652\"><strong>Suggested stops<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"652\"><strong data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"686\">Gulu<\/strong>: Great place for a coffee break and takeaway lunch at The Lookout or O Cafe.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"652\"><strong data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"784\">Kitgum<\/strong>: Refuel here before continuing to Kidepo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important navigation tip<br \/><\/strong>After Gulu, Google Maps may suggest a shortcut around Kitgum town. <strong data-start=\"926\" data-end=\"942\">Ignore this.<\/strong> Stick to the main asphalt road (Gulu\u2013Kitgum\u2013Kidepo road) through Kitgum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final stretch<br \/><\/strong>You\u2019ll enter Kidepo via Katurum Gate. Bring a packed lunch or stop for lunch in Hoima.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"193\" data-end=\"290\"><strong>Route overview<br \/><\/strong>Your route out of Murchison Falls depends on where your lodge is located. If you stay near the northern gate, you\u2019ll drive through a large part of the park.
