Tanzania Hotel Guide

Based on our personal first-hand experience and those of other road trippers, we've carefully compiled an overview of our favourite places to stay in Tanzania, catering to all budgets. 

This guide is the result of over 10 years of travel experience in Tanzania. We are happy to share our tips exclusively with you, and we hope you find them useful on your travels in Tanzania. In case you have any comments, feedback, or tips, let us know!

We have categorized the accommodation selection on price. Hotels listed in the budget price category do not necessarily refer to a budget experience, the service can be really good with outstanding value for money. Price categories are based on a double room:

  • Budget: up to USD 120 for a budget double room (BB)
  • Mid-range: up to USD 300 for a mid-range room (BB)
  • Luxury: beyond USD 300 (Full Board)

Camping

When looking for a campsite, we highly recommend using the free app iOverlander. Basically, every campsite is plotted and reviewed. You find many nice campsites all across Tanzania. From basic bush campsites inside the parks to private campsites operated by lodge owners - the latter enables you to stay at a secured site with good amenities whilst sleeping for a dime. 

If we would have to make a top three favourite campsites, this is our list:

  1. Migombani Camp & Campsite - Mto wa Mbu, opposite the main gate of Lake Manyara
  2. Peponi Holiday Resort - Kigombe beach (Pangani area)
  3. Udzungwa Forest Camp - Udzungwa Mountains
