Our Story & Values
At Roadtrip Africa, we're more than just a car rental company - we're a group of passionate adventurers who love exploring the beauty of East Africa.
It all started with Okke and Laura from the Netherlands, back in 2011. When they were living in Uganda, they had many friends coming over to visit who wanted to explore Uganda at their own pace at an affordable rate. However, this was not possible at the time. No company offered reliable 4x4 cars for self-drive with camp gear and route planning assistance.
So, an idea was born. An idea to create a company that would help travelers discover the magic of Africa on their own terms. We've come a long way since our early days, expanding our services to Tanzania, Kenya, and Madagascar, and opening local offices in Kampala, Arusha, Nairobi, and Ivato.
Today, we're proud to still be the market leader in the self-drive industry in East Africa, with an ever-growing fleet of reliable 4x4 cars and a loyal community of (returning) Roadtrippers from all over the world.
We believe that trust and respect are essential to building strong relationships with our clients and our team. We're upfront and sincere, and we encourage our staff members to learn and grow. We are a small and efficient team of Dutchies, Ugandans, Kenyans, Tanzanians and Malagasy. Many of our team members have been with us since the very beginning, and we're proud to have reached the stage where our African offices are managed and co-owned by local members of our team. We believe this combination of Dutch accuracy and reliability, hands-on knowledge of the country and contagious joy for life is what sets us apart from other car rental and tour operator companies.
