Laikipia lies on the high plains north of Mount Kenya and is home to a network of private conservancies, working cattle ranches and community-owned wildlife areas. Wildlife moves freely between these landscapes, making Laikipia one of East Africa’s most successful conservation regions.

The Laikipia Plateau is vast and sparsely populated, creating a real sense of space and wilderness. Wildlife sightings can be excellent, with elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, lions and many other species roaming across the conservancies and ranchlands.

Unlike Kenya’s national parks, many conservancies in Laikipia offer activities beyond traditional game drives. Depending on where you stay, you may be able to:
