Kilifi hotel tips

Kilifi town is a 2-hour drive up north from Mombasa and a friendly, laid-back and authentic village located along a picturesque creek. Kilifi is not (yet) discovered by fly-in tourism and is popular among backpackers, digital nomads, kitesurfers and yogis. There are some surprisingly cool hang-out places to discover in Kilifi. Check our blog about the best beaches in Kenya for more tips.

If you happen to stay at Distant Relatives, consider having lunch at Rasta Steve’s Restaurant. The restaurant is located amidst the rice fields and serves delicious fish dishes. If you are lucky, Steve might prepare fresh cashew nuts roasted over a fire for you.

Another must-do is visiting Kilifi Creek on a cloudy night to witness the stunning bioluminescent phenomenon known as ‘sea sparkle’. Although it’s difficult to capture this natural beauty in a picture, it’s absolutely unforgettable to witness it with your own eyes.
