Both activities are offered by SANA Gorilla Rafting and need to be arranged in advance.

To: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Approx. 3 hours | 130 km
Drive via Ishaka town, which is also your last fuel stop before entering Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Suggested stops:
- Search Kyansama Viewpoint on Google Maps for a beautiful view over the park.
To: Ishasha
Approx. 1-2 hours | 75 km
The first stretch close to Rukungiri won’t be the best, as the road conditions are not the best here. But the most significant part of the tarmac road to Ishasha was constructed last year, and Google Maps doesn’t recognise this new road yet. Not to worry, keep following the good tarmac road and the road signs to Ishasha. Sometimes Google Maps says to follow some small roads, but keep on the new, well-paved road, and you will enter Ishasha smoothly and fast.
To: Lake Bunyonyi
Approx. 3 hours | 130 km
This is a scenic drive through rolling hills and tea plantations. The entire route is on well-maintained tarmac, ensuring a smooth journey, except for the first stretch from Rukungiri, where the road conditions are not the best.
To: Lake Mburo
Approx. 3 hours | 140 km
This is a scenic drive through rolling hills and tea plantations. The entire route is on well-maintained tarmac, ensuring a smooth journey, except for the first stretch from Rukungiri, where the road conditions are not the best.
Suggested stops:
- Mbarara – Stop here to refuel or grab a bite at the popular Rolex Booth.
To: Lake Mutanda/Bwindi
Approx. 6 hours | 210 km
Plan for a full day on the road today.
Take the asphalt road from Rukungiri through Ntungamo and Kabale to Kisoro.
Important: Google Maps might suggest a shortcut from Mutozho to Karungu. Ignore this. It’s slower and much rougher. Instead, follow the main road: first plot Ntungamo, then plot Kabale, then Kisoro and then your lodge as your final destination.
From Kisoro, enjoy a scenic drive along an adventurous dirt road through the stunning Kigezi Highlands to reach Lake Mutanda or Rushaga.
Suggested stops
- Kabale: Lunch at The Gathering Place or Safari Diners Choma Restaurant
- Kisoro: Final fuel stop before entering the Bwindi area
