Kirindy Forest is a must for wildlife lovers. This dry deciduous forest is one of the few places where you might spot Madagascar’s top predator — the fossa — along with mouse lemurs, chameleons, and giant jumping rats.

Go on a night walk — Join a guided night walk to see the forest come alive after dark. You might spot the tiny mouse lemur, owls, reptiles, and — if you’re lucky — the elusive fossa.

Route
- Start your drive south from Kirindy.
- After about 1.5 hours, you’ll reach Baobab Avenue.
- About 30 minutes later, you’ll hit asphalt again and continue through the city to your lodge.
Tip
- Stop at the restaurant overlooking Baobab Avenue to enjoy a drink and take some stunning pictures.

Route
- Depart early (latest 8 AM) from Morondava.
- Follow the rough road north towards Bekopaka.
- You’ll pass two ferries en route (each approx. €16 per car).
- Stop for early lunch in Belo sur Tsiribihina.
Tip
- Try Mad Zebu in Belo for a memorable meal—its chef is a former 3-star Michelin cook, an unexpected gem in such a remote area. Restaurant Karibo is another solid option.
